Hello Everyone,
My name is Joshua Gompert, and I would like to be the first person to say hello and welcome to Joshnet.org. Joshnet is my own personal project and as such I like for everything that I make to be very personal in nature. From time to time I will be posting about what is going on in the web development and design world. Also, I would like to spotlight that I will be doing my best to just post anything I have found particularly useful when it comes to the web or computers in general.
My background in computers is all self taught, I personally have never even taken a single computer class in college, but computers and web development is a passion. Currently I have extensive experience on windows, and that is the most common environment that I program in. If you wonder why Windows, the answer is simple, as much as everyone can hate on windows, it still is the best. You can run it on almost anything and it runs almost any software you can get your hands on. As for development, Windows, the .NET Framework, and Visual Studios provides a powerful developing environment that is fun to use an easy to become addicted to. With that said I do not rebuke all other operating systems. I also find beauty in Linux. I currently have on laptop running openSUSE 11.2 with KDE. It truly does show the power and freedom of open source programming at its best. Linux combined with Mono and Mono Develop makes it easy for anyone familiar with Visual Studios to jump right in and feel comfortable porting programs over to Linux. The very best part is that it even enables the web programmer to run ASP.NET from Linux.
